A bench with a figure of the traveller and explorer of Cameroon from Kalisz, set up in 2023 on the street named after him.
The monument bench of Stefan Szolc-Rogoziński stands in Świnoujście, at the junction of the street named after him with Jachtowa Street. It was set up in June 2023, without an official unveiling and without a ceremony.
Stefan Szolc-Rogoziński (1861-1896) was born in Kalisz. In 1882 he organised the first Polish research expedition to Africa, to Cameroon. He explored the coast there and the basin of the Mungo River, discovered Lake Barombi Mbo, and together with Leopold Janikowski climbed the peak of Fako, today the volcano Mount Cameroon (4,095 m above sea level). He died in Paris at the age of 35. In 2023 his remains were brought from France and laid to rest in Kalisz. In Świnoujście a street bears his name, and the bench stands on it.
The bench lies about 400 m from the Spa Park in Świnoujście, so it is easy to include in a walk around this part of the town.
Less than a kilometre further on is the Port of Świnoujście, and by it the Sea Fishing Museum in Świnoujście lies about 800 m from the bench.
