Florian Krygier Bench in Szczecin

The Florian Krygier Bench stands in Szczecin at the entrance to the City Stadium from the side of Twardowskiego Street. The bronze sculpture shows the footballer, coach and sports official who gave the stadium his name.

The sculpture

The author of the monument is Maciej Jagodziński of the Jagenmeer Sculpture Studio. Florian Krygier sits on a stadium bench made from a solid block of Strzegom granite. He wears a suit with a sports jacket, holds a ball in his left hand, and his characteristic hat lies at his right side. The inscription “Florian Krygier 1907 - 2006” and the coaching motto “In sport you never lose, because you either win or you learn” are sandblasted on the side walls.

Where the monument came from

The idea won the eighth edition of the Szczecin Civic Budget, receiving 11,507 votes. The City Council gave its consent to the monument in April 2021, the competition was decided in September 2022, and the official unveiling took place on 3 August 2023.
