A Modernist brick church of 1930-1932, entered in the heritage register, with the history of the painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa.
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gryfice is a brick church of 1930-1932, entered in the heritage register as a Modernist building.
Construction was begun in 1930 by Father Edmund Wende, parish priest of the Catholic parish founded in the town in 1914. According to the Wikipedia entry it was the first Catholic church in Gryfice after the Reformation. Poles worked mainly on the construction. The church was blessed on 16 November 1932. The heritage register describes it as brick, in the Modernist style.
For the blessing ceremony the Poles funded a copy of the painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa for a side altar. In November 1933 the painting was secretly removed and destroyed. In the Jubilee Year 2000 the parishioners and the local branch of the association “Civitas Christiana” funded a new copy, enthroned on 30 July 2000.
The second Roman Catholic parish church in the town is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, about 0.7 km away.
