About Church of Our Lady Queen of the World in Unibórz

Neo-Gothic red-brick church of 1876, built after a fire in the village, now a branch church.

The Church of Our Lady Queen of the World in Unibórz is a neo-Gothic red-brick church of 1876, built after a fire in the village as an Old Lutheran church.

After the fire of 1875

An Old Lutheran church had previously stood on this spot, and it burned down in 1875 together with most of the buildings in the village. The new brick church was built in 1876; the date is commemorated by an inscription on the choir balustrade. It was consecrated as a Catholic church in 1956. The heritage register gives the date 1876 and the neo-Gothic style.

Brick and furnishings

The unplastered building stands on a rectangular plan with a chancel closed on three sides, a small porch and a semi-elliptical apse. The roof is gabled and tiled, and the tall windows end in an arch. A picture of the Virgin and Child hangs in the altar, with a painted tabernacle below it bearing the letters Alpha and Omega. In the left part of the chancel there is a wooden pulpit. Beside the church stands a mission cross with the dates of the missions.

Nearby lies Golczewo with its castle tower.
