Church of St Brother Albert in Borne Sulinowo

Borne Sulinowo
About Church of St Brother Albert in Borne Sulinowo

A church in Borne Sulinowo converted from a former Soviet cinema, with a triptych from 1940 made in Oflag II-D Gross-Born.

The Church of St Brother Albert in Borne Sulinowo is a former Soviet cinema, which in 1993-2010 was rebuilt and adapted as a church. It is a parish of the Szczecinek deanery of the Koszalin-Kołobrzeg Diocese, a trace of the time when Soviet troops were stationed in the town.

The triptych from the Oflag

The complex includes a chapel with a triptych made in Neubrandenburg in 1940 by Lieutenant J. Zamojski. In 1942 it was taken to Oflag II-D Gross-Born. Until 2008 it hung in the chapel of the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army in Warsaw, and in 2008 the Field Bishop gave it to the parish. The site is therefore linked with Oflag II-D Gross-Born.

The grounds

A stone wall surrounds the church and the presbytery, and a tower was added in 2009.

Nearby

The town has the Museum of Military History, and not far away lies the Soviet cemetery.

Practical information
