Modern church of 1982 in Dziwnówek, whose form refers to a hut on the Kamień Lagoon.
The Church of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe in Dziwnówek is a modern church of 1982, whose form refers to a hut on the Kamień Lagoon, where Masses used to be celebrated for residents and tourists. The building was completed in three months.
From the beginning of the village's existence Dziwnówek had no church, and the faithful went to Kamień Pomorski, 9 km away. After the war Masses on Sundays were celebrated in the sea rescue station in neighbouring Dziwnów. The foundation stone was blessed on 18 July 1982 by Bishop Stanisław Stefanek, and construction to a design by Eng. Jerzy Okiński lasted until 16 October 1982, when the consecration took place.
Above the entrance there is a choir with an organ, and in the side aisle a chapel. In the chancel a large three-part stained-glass window with the Immaculate Virgin and the patron of the parish, St Maximilian Maria Kolbe, has been placed on the wall. Under the window stands a wooden triptych in a Gothic style, with a figure of St Maximilian with a crown of barbed wire and of St Francis surrounded by birds. In front of the chancel a ship hangs as a votive gift. The square in front of the church is paved, with the coat of arms of Dziwnówek: the sun and a fish in water.
