Late Gothic filial church of the 15th century in Barnkowo, on the outskirts of Chojna, with a Neo-Gothic tower added in the 19th century.
St Mark's Church stands in Barnkowo, a former suburb of Chojna. It is a late Gothic building of stone and brick from the 15th century, in the Middle Ages connected with an Augustinian monastery. Today it is a filial church of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Chojna and still serves the faithful.
The church is a hall, single-nave, with a chancel closed by a plain wall. In the Middle Ages it served as a station church, connected with the Augustinian monastery. In modern times it was rebuilt, and in the 19th century a Neo-Gothic tower with a balcony and a pyramidal helm was added at the west. The interior is covered with a wooden beamed ceiling, the windows are divided into small panes, and on the west wall stands a music gallery supported on pillars.
Formerly the church held a partly preserved triptych from the 15th century. In 1984-1986 it was reconstructed as part of the altar in the chapel of the Archdiocesan Higher Theological Seminary in Szczecin. The church was consecrated as a Catholic one on 24 April 1948.
It is about 1.3 km from here to the centre of Chojna, where St Mary's Church stands.
