Church of the Holy Trinity in Żuków

Żuków 53, Żuków
About Church of the Holy Trinity in Żuków

A village parish church of stone, entered in the heritage register, with a Renaissance pulpit and a gable decorated with blind arcading.

The Church of the Holy Trinity stands in Żuków in Przelewice municipality, in Pyrzyce county. It is a stone church with a tower on the west side, entered in the heritage register in 1965. From the Reformation until 1945 it served Evangelicals, and in 1947 Catholics consecrated it.

The building

The nave on a rectangular plan has a gable roof and windows closed with semicircular arches. The east gable is decorated with blind arcading arranged in a pyramid and with pinnacles. A tower adjoins the nave on the west side, with pointed-arch recesses, one of which holds the entrance portal, and the face of the tower is enlivened by round-arched and circular blind arcading. The tower is topped by a pointed spire. The parish dates the building to the 15th century, the Wikipedia entry to the 14th century, and the heritage register to the 15th century.

Interior

The ceiling is flat and wooden, and a choir gallery stands on the west wall. The most valuable item is the late Renaissance pulpit from 1610, decorated with the coats of arms of the Schöning, Brederlow and Sydon families. The parish also mentions wooden figures of St Peter and St Paul from the 17th century. The former altar from 1569 with alabaster panels was destroyed in 1967.
