About Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nowe Objezierze

A filial church from the 2nd half of the 13th century, rebuilt in 1898-1902, from which a triptych from the workshop of Claus Berg was moved to the cathedral in Szczecin.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nowe Objezierze was built in the second half of the 13th century in the Romanesque style. It is a filial church of the parish of St Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr in Klępicz, in Moryń municipality.

The Middle Ages and the rebuilding of 1898-1902

The original building was an oriented hall church on a rectangular plan, built of granite stones and brick. In 1898-1902 the church was completely rebuilt: the west elevation, gables and windows were rebuilt, a chancel with a sacristy was added, a porch by the south elevation and a Neo-Gothic tower in the south-west corner. Of the Romanesque layout only a fragment of the south wall with a pointed-arch portal with three stepped reveals has survived, today hidden by the porch. A bell from 1714 hangs in the brick tower, decorated with blind arcades.

Interior and the triptych of Claus Berg

The chancel is covered by a cross vault, and the nave by a wooden ceiling. The furnishings include a Neo-Renaissance organ case, a Neo-Gothic pulpit and pews, and stained glass. Formerly the church held an altar triptych from around 1520-1530 from the Lübeck workshop of Claus Berg, which in 1985 was moved to St James' Cathedral in Szczecin.

After 1945

The church was blessed as Catholic on 17 July 1945.
