A half-timbered church of 1604 in Ciećmierz, mentioned among the oldest in this technique in Pomerania, with a copy of a Gothic triptych and a pulpit from the 18th century.
The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ciećmierz (Karnice municipality, Gryfice County) was built in 1604 as a Protestant church. The encyclopedia entry counts it among the oldest churches in Pomerania built in the half-timbered technique. It is entered in the heritage register.
The church has a rectangular plan, without a separate chancel, and a gabled roof. In 1798 an annexe was added on the south. During a renovation in 1934 it was demolished, and a new one was built on the west. Under the eaves of the western part of the roof hangs a bell of 1768. After the Second World War the church was blessed as a Catholic church on 19 February 1947.
The interior has a wooden, beamed ceiling, and above the entrance a music gallery supported on two posts. In the chancel stands a copy of a Gothic triptych, which was moved to Ciećmierz in 1681. The original has been in St James’ Cathedral Basilica in Szczecin since 1990. On the left side of the altar is a wooden, octagonal pulpit from the 18th century, supported on a post. Originally richly covered with polychrome, it has kept only part of its plant ornament.
In the neighbourhood lies the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cerkwica, about 5 km from here.
