Stone church of the 13th century in Mętno with a massive tower, pointed windows and a neo-Gothic apse of 1866.
The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the village of Mętno in Chojna municipality and is a branch of the Chojna parish. Its construction is dated to the 13th century, and the earliest mention comes from 1350. It should not be confused with the church in neighbouring Mętno Małe.
It is a hall building of stone ashlar, with a separate chancel and a sacristy on the south side. On the west side stands a stone tower, wider than the nave, covered with a gable roof. In 1866 a brick, five-sided neo-Gothic apse was added to the chancel. The upper storey of the tower has small pointed windows, and the gable has slender pointed blind arches.
The windows of the nave (apart from the eastern one) and of the chancel have kept their original pointed form with elongated proportions. In the walls of the nave traces of walled-up portals can be seen. The ceiling is wooden, of beams, and above the entrance stands a choir gallery. A neo-Gothic wooden pulpit on a single leg and an old font have survived. Around the church is a historic cemetery enclosed by a stone wall. After the war the church was reconsecrated as a Catholic church in 1946.
