A modernist fountain-sculpture of clinker shapes from 1997, in a state of ruin for years.
The “Labirynt” sculpture is a Szczecin fountain-sculpture from 1997 at the junction of Wojska Polskiego Avenue and Plac Zwycięstwa. For years it has been in a state of ruin and does not work as a fountain.
It is a modernist block in the shape of an obliquely cut cuboid. It was built of clinker shapes that form the outlines of a woman, a tree and a man. The glazed shapes were originally sprayed with water and shimmered in the colours of the rainbow. The sculpture was designed by Ryszard Wilk, and the assembly was carried out by Adam Jakubowski.
The sculpture was erected in front of the townhouse at Wojska Polskiego Avenue 1 on the initiative of the Pomeranian Credit Bank and the Szczecin City Hall. After less than three months the nozzles of the unmaintained fountain became clogged and the water was cut off. Later the installation was ruined by vandalism. Ideas for renovation have appeared since 2012, and successive tenders were not resolved. In 2017 the city gave up its plan for demolition after a petition from residents.
