Pomorze Zachodnie
About Pomeranian Way of St James

Pilgrim route Via Baltica recreated in 2011-2013, in the region from Koszalin through Kołobrzeg and Szczecin to Świnoujście.

The Pomeranian Way of St James, also called the Camino Polaco del Norte, is part of the Via Baltica. In the Middle Ages the route led from Estonia through Lithuania and Poland to Germany. The modern trail was recreated in 2011-2013 thanks to funds from the EU programme Interreg South Baltic, and it was officially opened and included in the network of Ways of St James on 28 July 2013.

The route in the region

The project involved, among others, the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the Szczecin Foundation. The trail leads from Kretinga through Königsberg, Elbląg, Gdańsk, Lębork, Łeba and Ustka, and in West Pomerania through Góra Chełmska in Koszalin, Kołobrzeg, Kamień Pomorski, Wolin and Szczecin to Świnoujście, from where it continues to Greifswald and Rostock. The Polish sections have their own names, and the part in our voivodeship is called the West Pomeranian Way of St James.

Practical information

  • A guidebook to the Pomeranian Way of St James has been produced; it is worth using when planning stages.
  • Check the length of the West Pomeranian section and the exact route in the guidebook or with the organisers of the trail.
