Former market square of the Old Town in Gryfino, where the town hall and a Gothic church once stood, now surrounded by post-war buildings.
Prince Barnim I Square is a rectangular square in the Old Town of Gryfino, the town's former market square. It is bounded on the south by Piastów Street, on the west by Kościelna Street and on the east by Bolesława Chrobrego Street. Until 1945 it bore the German name Markt.
The square was the main market square of the oldest part of the town. In the 13th century a town hall and the Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary were built beside it, and the church still stands today. A fire in 1530 destroyed the buildings of the market square and of the whole town. In 1723 a new town hall was built here, and in 1851 a neo-Gothic one in its place.
The buildings of the market square, together with the town hall, were destroyed in 1945 and were not rebuilt in their former form. The ruins of the town hall were demolished, and blocks of several storeys were built in place of the townhouses. After the war the square was named after Prince Barnim I.
