About Klif w Dziwnówku Nature Reserve

Reserve of 4.17 ha along the beach in Dziwnówek, protecting the cliff and the bunkers exposed by erosion.

The Klif w Dziwnówku nature reserve is an inanimate nature reserve with an area of 4.17 ha. It lies along the beach, several hundred metres east of the buildings of Dziwnówek, in the Dziwnów municipality. It was established on 8 February 2017, together with the Klif w Łukęcinie reserve. They were the first reserves of sea shore ecosystems in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

What it protects

The area includes dunes and wooded land, from the erosion of which the cliff formed. The aim of protection is to preserve the landscape of the sea shore wall within the natural processes of abrasion. The whole also lies within a landscape protection area.

Remains from the 1950s

In part of the reserve there are remains of tunnels, fortifications and bunkers built in the 1950s for defence against a landing from the sea. Advancing erosion, among other things the storm of autumn 2017, is steadily exposing them.

Practical information

  • Location: along the beach east of Dziwnówek.
  • The rules of movement in the reserve (protection zones, prohibitions) are given by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin, and it is worth checking them before a walk.
  • The nearest church in Dziwnówek: the Church of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe.
