Barwice
About Przełom rzeki Dębnicy Nature Reserve

A landscape reserve in the Dębnica valley with a 10-kilometre nature trail and a blue walking trail.

The Przełom rzeki Dębnicy (Dębnica River Gorge) is a landscape reserve in Barwice municipality, on the eastern edge of Drawsko Landscape Park. It lies about 7 km south-south-west of Barwice and 14 km north-north-east of Czaplinek. The river breaks through a ridge of end moraine here, and its valley has a foothill character.

What the reserve protects

The reserve was established on 9 January 2009 on an area of 138.59 ha. It protects a young-glacial landscape with the river gorge and the valley of the Dębnica with rich flora and fauna. Among the species the sources list the moss Dicranum viride, the red alga Hildenbrandia rivularis and the grey wagtail. It is supervised by the Połczyn Forest District.

Trail and nature path

A marked nature path, “Przełom rzeki Dębnicy”, 10 km long, with eight stops, leads through the reserve. Walking it takes about 4 hours. The blue marked Połczyn Switzerland Trail runs through the same area, so the valley can also be visited as part of a longer hike.
