Zielona Odra Cycle Route

Wysoka-Wybudowa
About Zielona Odra Cycle Route

A cycle route of more than regional importance along the Oder, from Kostrzyn nad Odrą through Cedynia and Gryfino to the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes in Szczecin.

The Zielona Odra route is a cycle route of more than regional importance that runs along the Oder, mainly through the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and partly through Lubuskie. It passes through four landscape parks: Ujście Warty, Cedynia Landscape Park, Lower Oder Valley Landscape Park and Szczecin Landscape Park “Puszcza Bukowa”. According to the route description, there are numerous nature reserves and natural monuments, viewpoints and historic sites along the way.

Route

The route begins in Kostrzyn nad Odrą, in the Szumiłowo district, and heads north through Kaleńsko and Namyślin to Kłosów, then towards the bank of the Oder at Czelin. Beyond the village it enters the Mieszkowice Forests. In Stary Błeszyn, Gozdowice, Stare Łysogórki and Siekierki there are places connected with the crossing of the Oder in April 1945: a soldiers' cemetery, a viewpoint, a museum and monuments. Examples of half-timbered building survive in the villages along the route.

Before Cedynia the route passes Czcibor Hill, a viewpoint with a monument commemorating the thousandth anniversary of the Battle of Cedynia, and the Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie nature reserve. It then runs past the Bielinek nature reserve and the Oder backwaters to the village of Piasek, and on through the Krzymów Hills to Zatonia Dolna, set on an escarpment above the Oder, where there are many viewpoints. Further viewpoints await on the summits of the Sarbskie Górki near Widuchowa, and in Nowe Czarnowo stands the Crooked Forest natural monument.

From Gryfino to Szczecin

Beyond Gryfino the route passes through Żabnica and Dębce, follows the Wełtyński Stream into the western part of the Beech Forest and leads from there to Szczecin. In the city it runs through Żydowce and Podjuchy, across the Regalica by bridge to the summer resort of Dziewoklicz, and then along the Oder via Trasa Zamkowa and Szczecin's Podzamcze. It ends at the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes.

Practical information

  • This is a linear route along the Oder, not a single spot: the West Pomeranian section begins beyond Kostrzyn nad Odrą and ends in Szczecin.
  • The route description lists railway stations along the way, including those in Nowe Czarnowo and Daleszewo Gryfińskie, which makes it easier to split the trip into stages.
  • Check the length, surface and waymarking in the current materials of the route managers, because the route description does not include them.
