“The Optimists, or Our Folks on Holiday in Egypt” is a comedy about a family that goes on holiday to Egypt together for the first time. The all-inclusive option means everything has to be eaten, drunk, danced and swum off, because after all, it's already paid for.
The story unfolds at an Egyptian resort. Ewa, played by Karolina Gorczyca, has invited her parents, Kasia and Janek (Hanna Śleszyńska and Piotr Cyrwus), on holiday to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. The trip turns out differently than planned: Mum complains, Dad wears jeans despite the heat, her husband Adaś (Marcin Korcz) takes advantage of the free drinks, and Ewa tries to survive until the end of the stay. The family also keeps a little table recording what has been eaten, drunk, swum, danced and burned off.
Cast: Hanna Śleszyńska / Violetta Arlak, Karolina Gorczyca, Piotr Cyrwus / Jacek Lenartowicz, Marcin Korcz / Krzysztof Czeczot. Written and directed by Krzysztof Czeczot, who is also the director of the play “Pozytywni.” As he says, over the past year he travelled around resorts to see what really happens on all-inclusive holidays, and he considerably embellished the stories he gathered.
