About this event
Royal Classical Ballet, a Polish ballet company, presents “The Nutcracker” to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky at the hall of Kino Wolność (SAPIK) in Szczecinek. The show is aimed at both children and adults. It is a classic tale of good versus evil, with costumes and dynamic choreography set against a Christmas backdrop.
The show is a journey into the world of childhood imagination, set at Christmas. The organizers call Tchaikovsky's music the work of a master of the genre. They also cite its appeal: the music, the Christmas atmosphere, the choreography, the costumes, and the sets. Royal Classical Ballet's production also highlights the intergenerational nature of the experience.
The plot unfolds in two acts. On Christmas Eve, Clara finds a wooden nutcracker under the tree. When night falls, she falls asleep in an armchair, and the Nutcracker comes to life and saves her from the attacking mouse army and its King. Commanding his brother's toy soldiers, he fights a fierce battle, and Clara comes to his aid in time and is rewarded by the Snow Queen.
In the second act, the Nutcracker turns into a prince and takes Clara to the Land of Sweets. Along the way, she meets characters who perform fiery flamenco as well as Russian, Chinese, and Oriental dances. In the capital, Clara is welcomed like a princess and invited to a palace ball, where she waltzes with the prince amid flower garlands. At midnight everything fades away, and Clara wakes in the armchair holding the wooden toy.
The organizers present Royal Classical Ballet as a company of dancers. The story features the Kingdom of Snow, the Kingdom of Sweets, a sugar fairy, mice fighting with brooms, and ballerinas. It is also described as Clara's struggle with the Mouse King and the liberation of the Land of Sweets. Tchaikovsky's music, costumes, and dance arrangements are meant to create a wintry, festive atmosphere.
