The largest new church in Stargard built after the Second World War, on the Zachód estate, with an upper and a lower church.
The Church of Divine Mercy on Stargard's Zachód housing estate is the largest new church built in the town after the Second World War. According to the Wikipedia entry it can hold three thousand worshippers.
Permission to build was obtained in 1981, and excavations began on 23 August 1983. The parish was established on 31 December 1986, and the first services were held in the chapel of the lower church. The walls were raised by 1992, in 1991 three bells were hung in the tower, and from Palm Sunday 1997 the liturgy was already celebrated in the upper church. The consecration took place on 15 October 2006.
The church has two levels: the upper and the lower, with the chapel in which the parish's life began. To the right of the altar is the chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The stained glass in the lower church shows a vineyard, the Fatima miracle of the sun and scenes from the life of Christ. In later years the chapel of Our Lady of Fatima the Sorrowful was also created, whose figure was solemnly crowned.
