40, Mosty
About Church of Our Lady of the Candles in Mosty

Gothic church of stone and brick from the end of the 15th century, with a tower of 1721 and seven Gothic sculptures.

The Church of Our Lady of the Candles in Mosty, a village in Goleniów municipality, is a medieval building of stone and brick from the end of the 15th century. Seven Gothic sculptures have survived in it, and two Romanesque baptismal bowls stand by the entrance.

The building

The church was built at the end of the 15th century on a rectangular plan, with a chancel closed on three sides. In the 19th century it was partly rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style. A tower of 1721 adjoins it at the west: the lower part is of brick on a square plan, the upper one wooden, boarded, on an octagonal plan, with a shingle-covered helm. In the ground floor of the tower is the entrance portal.

Gothic sculptures and Romanesque bowls

Of the original medieval furnishings seven Gothic sculptures and two Romanesque baptismal bowls, with diameters of 51 and 59 centimetres, have survived, placed outside the church next to the entrance. Inside, under an open, raised ceiling, there are elements of 19th-century furnishings: the choir gallery, pulpit, pews and organ case. The chancel is separated from the nave by a chancel arch and covered with a rib-and-cross vault with three windows with stained glass. The interior was painted in 1969 by Michał Lipka.
