Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Baszewice

Baszewice, Baszewice
About Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Baszewice

Branch church in Baszewice from around 1440, rebuilt in 1975, with a Gothic font of Gotland stone.

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Baszewice, a branch of the parish in Mechowo, is dated to around 1440. It was built on a rectangular plan of fieldstone, granite ashlar and brick, and the gables are decorated with pinnacles. In the 19th century it was partly rebuilt. The brick east gable with blind niches bears traces of a tower of 1705 that has not survived.

Font and rebuilding

Of the historic furnishings only the bowl of a Gothic font made of stone from Gotland has survived. There is stained glass in the pointed-arch chancel window, and a wooden beamed ceiling above the nave. The church, which was destroyed during the war, was rebuilt in the early 1970s and reconsecrated on 21 December 1975.
