A Gothic filial church from the 14th century in Tychowo, with a plaque commemorating the courses of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
The Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland in Tychowo is a Gothic church from the 14th century, a filial church of the parish of St Stanislaus Kostka in Słonowice. This is Tychowo in Sławno municipality, in Sławno County, and not the town of the same name in Białogard County.
The heritage register dates the church to the mid-14th century and describes it as brick, Gothic. It has a single nave, a chancel closed on three sides and a two-storey rectangular tower. The doorway has a pointed arch, the second storey of the tower is decorated with four tall blind niches with small windows, and in the middle is a clock face. The windows of the nave are pointed and filled with modern stained glass. The gallery is reached by stairs through the tower.
In the second half of the 19th century an annexe was added on the north-west and a semicircular sacristy by the chancel. The annexe formerly served as a catechism room and today houses a Marian chapel. Inside hangs a plaque in Polish, English and German about the teaching of pastors opposed to Hitler, which Dietrich Bonhoeffer conducted here in 1939 and 1940. In front of the church stands a board “Treasures of the Sławno Land” describing the history and monuments.
The nearest complex of monuments is the palace complex in Noskowo, and a larger town with churches and a town hall is Sławno.
