Golczewo
About Church of St Andrew Bobola in Golczewo

Parish church in Golczewo from the 15th century, of fieldstone, with a brick tower of 1882 and a mannerist-baroque pulpit.

The Church of St Andrew Bobola in Golczewo was built in the 15th century of fieldstone. It originally had one nave and a Gothic portal in the west elevation. It is a parish church in the Golczewo deanery of the Szczecin-Kamień archdiocese.

Rebuildings

The church was rebuilt many times. Documents of 1627 already mention a tower, and in 1805 the church was extended to the south, lengthening the elevations by 8 metres. It now measures about 18.9 x 17.85 m, and the south elevation is slightly oblique. A new brick tower 30 metres high was built in 1882. It is on a square plan, and higher up changes into an octagon with a helmet decorated with wimpergs.

Interior

The single nave is covered by a beamed ceiling on two rows of wooden pillars. Of the earlier furnishings a mannerist-baroque pulpit with acanthus leaf motifs and a neo-Gothic copper font of 1886 have survived. The altars were made after 1945, and in the main one is an image of the patron. The windows have stained glass with saints, among them Teresa Ledóchowska and Maximilian Kolbe, and on the walls are bas-reliefs of the Way of the Cross. Beside the church stands a boulder commemorating Józef Piłsudski, the victims of the Katyn massacre and the Smolensk air disaster.
