Parish Church of St George in Goleniów, built in 1930 and rebuilt in 1980-1987, with stained glass and bas-reliefs.
The Church of St George in Goleniów is a parish church whose present form was created in 1980-1987 on the basis of a smaller Catholic church of 1930. It stands on gen. Andersa Street.
The plot was bought in 1928, and the church was built in under six months. The foundation stone was blessed on 27 July 1930, and the consecration took place on 27 December of the same year. The construction was supervised by the Berlin architect August Kaufhold. After 1945, in view of the influx of new residents, a side aisle and a choir were added, and parishioners from Vilnius funded a copy of the image of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn.
Work to a design by Adam Maria Szymski began on 21 July 1980. The renovated church was blessed on 21 December 1987. The interior is large and spacious. Of the earlier furnishings, a few stained-glass windows by the Berlin artist Carl Busch and 19th-century bells with biblical inscriptions have survived. There are also gilded bas-reliefs, among them one with St George on a dragon, and a large stained-glass window with the Holy Trinity in the altar wall.
