A filial church from the 15th century in Ognica, of erratic boulders, rebuilt from a ruin in 1978-1979.
The Church of St Hedwig of Silesia stands in Ognica in Widuchowa municipality, in Gryfino County. It dates from the 15th century, and after the destruction of 1945 it was rebuilt from a ruin. It is a filial church of the parish of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Widuchowa, to which the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Widuchowa also belongs.
The church has a rectangular plan and is built of erratic boulders. The entrances take the form of pointed-arch portals, and the interior is covered by a flat wooden ceiling. The chancel lies on a slight rise, and in its wall there is a round-arched niche with a figure of the patron saint, St Hedwig of Silesia.
In 1945 the church was destroyed by the fighting. The rebuilding from the ruin took place in 1978-1979, and the blessing took place on 16 June 1979. The building is entered in the municipal register of monuments. During a visit to this stretch of the Oder you can also look at the Oder Valley Trail, which runs nearby.
