About Church of St John the Baptist in Krzęcin

A Neo-Gothic church from 1910 that has kept a Baroque altar, bells from the 17th and 18th centuries and small stained-glass panels from 1690.

The Church of St John the Baptist in Krzęcin is a Neo-Gothic parish church from 1910, in Choszczno deanery of the Szczecin-Kamień Archdiocese. It is entered in the heritage register (entry from 2005).

Architecture

The brick church was built in 1910. This date used to be on a metal weathervane on the roof. The new interior furnishings were made almost at the same time as the building, and the organ was made in 1910 by the Szczecin firm Grüneberg.

Older furnishings

Some elements from the old church were moved to the new one: a Baroque altar, bells from 1681 and 1773, and three small armorial stained-glass panels from 1690. The altar, a bell and the armorial panels are the oldest historic items of the church to have survived to this day. A fourth panel was taken in 1928 to the museum in Choszczno.

After 1945

The church was taken over by Catholics and blessed on 23 December 1945, and the parish was established on 11 September 1960. The painting “Crucifixion” from the high altar was lost in the first years after the war and replaced with a new one on the same theme. In 1998 new stained-glass windows were installed in the chancel, and in 2000 a window in the north wall received stained glass with an image of John Paul II.
