Parish church in Węgorzyno from the end of the 16th century, rebuilt after the Second World War, with a reconstructed half-timbered tower and a Renaissance gallery.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Węgorzyno stands on Grunwaldzka Street and belongs to the Łobez deanery of the Szczecin-Kamień archdiocese. Its present form was given at the end of the 16th century by founders from among the local townspeople, on the site of an earlier, 15th-century church destroyed in a fire of the town.
The church, built of erratic boulders, has a rectangular plan, three buttresses in the north elevation and an apse with a five-sided end on the east side. After another fire it was rebuilt in 1705-1715 and its forms were considerably simplified. In 1750 a half-timbered tower was added, set into the body. After wartime destruction it was rebuilt on the initiative of Fr Fortunat Sosnowski and blessed on 31 May 1959. The tower was reconstructed only in 2003, and the side galleries in 2000.
The interior is covered by a dark beamed ceiling. Along the walls runs a reconstructed Renaissance gallery on pillars, in the high altar a painting of the Crucifixion has been placed, and by the chancel arch a sculpture of the baptismal angel is suspended. The windows have stained glass.
