About Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Obromino

A filial church from the 18th century, of which the timber-framed west wall and the Baroque tower with a lantern have survived.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Obromino is the filial church of a village in Pyrzyce municipality, belonging to the parish of Our Lady of Sorrows in Pyrzyce. Of the original 18th-century building only the timber-framed west wall and the Baroque wooden tower with a lantern have survived, and it is these parts that are entered in the heritage register.

What remains of the old church

The church was built in the 18th century, probably on the site of an earlier, medieval church. Originally it was timber-framed. Above the west part of the roof stands a Baroque wooden tower topped with an octagonal spire with a lantern. In 1961-1962 the timber-frame structure was replaced with a masonry one and the roof was replaced, and only the west wall and the tower remained in their old form. It was blessed on 3 May 1964 by Bishop Wilhelm Pluta.

Interior

In the west part of the nave is a gallery with a baluster balustrade. An 18th-century pulpit altar has survived, decorated with columns and plant ornament, in which a painting of the Virgin Mary was set in place of the pulpit basket. The two former bells in the tower, which were cracked, were replaced in 1983 with one new one. In 1987 the church became the seat of a new parish, but already in 1992 it was moved to Pyrzyce. In the area, in Pyrzyce, stands the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
