Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krajnik

27, Krajnik
About Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krajnik

A branch church in Krajnik from the 18th century, in ruins after 1945, rebuilt and consecrated in 1960.

The church in Krajnik (Gryfino municipality) was built in the 18th century, and the heritage register indicates brick as the building material. The Wikipedia entry calls it the Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It belongs to the parish of St Padre Pio in Pniewo.

Ruin and rebuilding

After 1945 the church was at first unused and fell into ruin. It was rebuilt in 1960, and a sacristy was added at the same time; the consecration was performed on 22 May 1960 by Fr Jerzy Kowalski. Later rebuildings blurred the original character of the building, and of the original elements only the tympanum above the portal in the north elevation is visible.

The building is plastered, stands on a foundation of stone and brick, and above the west part of the nave rises a small, square tower with a pavilion roof. The interior has a wooden, beamed ceiling and a choir gallery on posts. Next to the church, in the former Evangelical cemetery, a lapidarium has been set up.
