About Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Pobierowo

Modern church of 1986 with a roof on a ridge rib and chains instead of gutters.

The Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Pobierowo is a modern church of 1986, designed by the engineer-architect Jerzy Okniński. It is distinguished by its roof construction and by furnishings made mainly of wood.

Construction in the 1980s

The foundation stone was blessed by John Paul II at Jasna Góra in June 1983 and laid in July 1984. Construction began in March 1984. The church was consecrated on 28 November 1986. The dedication refers to the Jubilee Year of the Redemption of 1983.

A roof with chains instead of gutters

The church and the presbytery are built on a quadrangular plan measuring 16 by 16 metres. The roof is carried by a reinforced ridge rib 24 metres long, and instead of gutters the water runs down thick chains hanging from the roof truss to the ground. Windows with a total area of 90 square metres were installed in 1986. The tower is about 22.5 metres high.

Interior

The altar is made of larch, and the other elements of ash, alder and pine. In the chancel the central place is taken by a cross-shaped painting. The Way of the Cross was painted by the Jesuit Bronisław Podsiadło, and in 2017 a chapel of Our Lady of Fátima and St Florian was arranged beneath the altar. Three bronze bells hang in the church, set in motion by electromagnets.
