A transitional bog and alder carr on the Szczecin Lagoon, crossed by the green Stepnica Trail.

The “Czarnocin named after Prof. Janina Jasnowska” nature reserve lies in Stepnica municipality, on the Szczecin Lagoon, about 2 km north-east of the village of Czarnocin. It covers 420.14 ha and protects a fragment of a transitional bog with Atlantic vegetation and an alder-birch carr.

What the reserve protects

It was established on 21 May 1974 on a mere 9.40 ha. In 2004 it was enlarged to almost 420 ha. Protected here are sites of the royal fern, bog-myrtle and the Pomeranian honeysuckle. The area is under active protection. In 2015 the reserve was named after Prof. Janina Jasnowska, a geobotanist and peat specialist who contributed to the creation of many protected areas in West Pomerania.
