Gosań

Biała Góra
About Gosań

A hill 93.4 m above sea level on the Baltic, an abrasion cliff and a viewpoint of Wolin National Park.

Gosań is a hill 93.4 m above sea level on Wolin Island, directly on the Baltic Sea, within Wolin National Park. Its Wikipedia entry counts it among the park's four viewpoints, which look out over the Pomeranian Bay.

The abrasion cliff

The hill is an example of a scree-type abrasion cliff. The sandy and gravelly slope crumbles at the angle of natural repose, and talus cones form at its foot. Once the sand has been washed out of them, only stones remain. The activity of the cliff depends on the strength of abrasion, because waves undercut the foot, while wind and running rainwater quickly change the slope.

Military traces

On the hill stand elements of two-sided observation post no. 319, built in the 1950s and formerly used by the 17th Międzyzdroje Fixed Artillery Battery. It included a crew alert shelter and an observation tower. Slightly to the west you can see the former shelter of fixed radiolocation post no. 326. About 0.7 km to the south-east lies Grzywacz, the highest hill on Wolin Island.
