A modern church of 1998-2002, with a stained-glass window “Calming of the Storm at Sea” and a granite altar.
The Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Niechorze is a postmodern Catholic church on Krakowska Street. It is a modern building: construction began in 1998, and the first Mass was celebrated on 17 April 2002. It was designed by Halina Rutyna.
The parish was established by Bishop Kazimierz Majdański on 31 December 1986, on the initiative of Fr Tadeusz Walczyk. The church was built on the site of an earlier, temporary chapel. The interior was furnished gradually: in 2003 an organ was installed, in 2005 a bell named after John Paul II, in 2006 a new tabernacle, and in 2011 pews and an LED installation on the cross on the roof.
In 2010 a granite altar and pulpit were erected, which Archbishop Andrzej Dzięga consecrated in 2017, giving the church its present dedication. In 2014 a painting of Our Lady of Ostra Brama in the Dress of Gratitude was unveiled, and in 2018 a stained-glass window “Calming of the Storm at Sea” was blessed. From the church it is not far to the lighthouse and the Sea Fishing Museum.
