A lighthouse from 1866 on the cliff in Niechorze, 45 m high, with a viewing terrace reached by 208 steps, open to visitors.
The lighthouse in Niechorze stands on a high cliff shore in Rewal municipality and is open to visitors. The pale yellow brick tower is 45 m high, and 208 anticlockwise steps lead to a viewing terrace with a balustrade, from which you can see a panorama of the Rewal coast. The light was first lit here on 1 December 1866.
A commission appointed on 5 December 1860 considered locations for a new lighthouse around Trzęsacz and in Niechorze. The shipping ministry rejected the Trzęsacz area, and on 15 May 1863 design work and construction began in Niechorze. The heritage register dates the structure to 1863-1866.
The tower was built of pale yellow facing brick. Up to a height of 13 metres it has a square cross-section, and above that an octagonal one. Pilaster strips of alternating red and black glazed brick run along the corners. At the top is a lantern with a first-order Fresnel apparatus.
In 1945 an artillery shell damaged the optical system. The retreating Germans placed eight mines in the building, which were found and defused, so the structure survived. The optical apparatus was rebuilt in 1948 and the lighthouse went back into service on 18 December 1948.
A major renovation lasted from 1999 to 5 December 2000: the outbuildings were restored, the original colour of the tower was brought back and the courtyard fence was recreated. The terrace and lantern were renovated in the spring of 2008, and the tower in the spring and summer of 2023. In the square in front of the lighthouse stands a monument commemorating the lighthouse keepers of Niechorze.
The lighthouse is managed by the Maritime Office in Szczecin and is one of the sights of Rewal municipality. Marked trails run nearby: the E9 Coastal Trail named after Czesław Piskorski, and the EuroVelo 10 and EuroVelo 13 cycle routes. Two hundred metres from the tower is the Lighthouse Miniatures Park, and about a kilometre further on is the Sea Fishing Museum.
Niechorze lies close to Trzęsacz, where the ruins of the church stand on the edge of a cliff. The lighthouse also appears in the 1964 film “Beata”, whose scenes were shot on the beach, on the tower and in the lantern.
