About Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lisie Pole

A church from the late 13th century of dressed granite, rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style in 1893, with bells from the 15th and 20th centuries.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lisie Pole, in Chojna municipality, was built at the end of the 13th century of dressed granite. It is a filial church of the parish in Nawodna.

Medieval body, Neo-Gothic rebuilding

It was originally a hall building on a rectangular plan. In 1893 the church was thoroughly rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style: to the east the nave was closed with a five-sided apse with a sacristy, new gables and windows were built, and to the west a new portal was cut and a wooden tower added. The south wall shows traces of the original portal.

The nave has a flat beamed ceiling, and the chancel a rib vault. At the back stands a 19th-century wooden gallery on posts. The original furnishings have not survived. Two bells hang in the tower, from the 15th and 20th centuries. After the war the church was reconsecrated as a Catholic church in 1946.

Cemetery

The former cemetery, enclosed by a stone wall, adjoins the church. On it stands a former monument to villagers killed in the First World War, which after 1945 was converted into the base of a Marian figure.

Nearby

The parish church in Nawodna is about three kilometres away, and it is about seven to Chojna with its historic monuments.
