About Church of St Anthony of Padua in Mostkowo

Neo-Gothic brick church of 1851 with a three-storey tower and an altar of the 18th century.

The Church of St Anthony of Padua in Mostkowo is a neo-Gothic brick church of 1851, with a three-storey tower and an altar of the 18th century. It stands in the village in Barlinek municipality and has been entered in the heritage register since 2019.

Architecture

The church was built in 1851 on the site of an earlier, smaller church. Built of brick, it has a rectangular plan and a chancel closed on three sides at the east end. The nave is covered with a gabled roof, the side walls have tall pointed-arch windows, and a porch was added to the south façade. On the west side adjoins a three-storey square tower with an entrance portal and a pointed spire. Its walls are decorated with pointed-arch, stepped and round niches.

Interior

The ceiling is flat, and above the entrance there is a choir gallery. An altar of the 18th century has survived, originally a pulpit altar, decorated with columns and plant ornament. After the Second World War, on 30 November 1958, the church was consecrated as a Catholic church, and since 1985 it has been a parish church.

Not far away, in Sulimierz, stands the Church of St Adalbert.
