A neo-Gothic church of dark clinker brick from 1890-1893, built for Lutherans, today the Sanctuary of St Joseph.
The Church of St Joseph the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Połabska 2 is a small neo-Gothic church of dark clinker brick in Szczecin's Pomorzany. It was built in 1890-1893 for a Lutheran congregation, and since 2021 it has had the status of the Sanctuary of St Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family.
The foundation stone was laid on 10 November 1890. The construction was planned to a design by Max Drechsler, and the parish at the new church, named after Martin Luther, was opened on 1 April 1893, after the architect's death. The heritage register dates the building to 1890-1893 and entered it in 2009.
The church has a single nave, laid out on a rectangular plan with a distinct chancel. The tower, structurally joined to the body of the church, is slender and ends in a spire with a ball and cross. Inside, beneath the tower, there is a music gallery with an organ. The windows contain later stained glass with scenes from the life of St Joseph, designed by Wiktor Ostrzołek, who also designed the tabernacle.
In 1946 Catholics took over the building and consecrated it on 20 September that year, creating a parish under the dedication of St Joseph. By a decree of 7 October 2021, Archbishop Andrzej Dzięga established the church as the Sanctuary of St Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family.
