About Church of St Michael the Archangel in Rosiny

A 13th-century granite church with a wooden tower of 1734, a Late Gothic portal and a 15th-century bell, surrounded by a former cemetery with a brick gate.

The Church of St Michael the Archangel in Rosiny, a village in Przelewice municipality, dates from the 13th century and is entered in the heritage register. Today it is a parish church.

Architecture

The hall building stands on a rectangular plan measuring 15.5 by 8 m. It was built of dressed granite blocks laid in 19 courses, and the gables and reveals were finished in brick. The corners are reinforced with massive brick buttresses. In 1734 a wooden bell tower clad in boards, with a lantern, was added above the west part of the nave, as confirmed by the date on the weathervane. In the south façade the original Late Gothic brick portal has survived, and the gables are decorated with blind niches.

Interior and surroundings

The interior has a wooden ceiling and a wooden music gallery above the entrance, and of the furnishings a Baroque altar and pulpit have survived. In front of the church lies a stone font bowl 85 cm in diameter, presumably from the 13th century. The grounds are surrounded by a former cemetery with a stone wall and a 15th-century brick gate. A 15th-century bell with a Latin inscription hangs in the tower.
