About Church of St Stanislaus Kostka in Karnice

A church from 1493 with a polychrome ceiling, a Baroque altar from 1641 and an organ from the 17th century.

The Church of St Stanislaus Kostka in Karnice was built in 1493 of stone and brick. It belongs to the parish of the same dedication in the Trzebiatów deanery of the Szczecin-Kamień Archdiocese and is entered in the heritage register.

Interior

The interior is covered by a wooden beamed ceiling with polychrome decoration in the form of plant ornament. Above the entrance is a choir gallery supported by six columns, and on it a Baroque organ from the 17th century, compared to the organ case in the cathedral in Kamień Pomorski.

In the chancel stands a two-storey Baroque altar with columns from 1641. In the predella is a painting of the Last Supper, on the first level the Crucifixion, on the second the Resurrection. On the left side of the chancel, by the wall, stands a Baroque pulpit with a canopy from the early 18th century. On the south wall stands a figure of the patron in the habit of a Jesuit, holding the Child Jesus. Next to it is a two-part tomb of light grey marble, commemorating Adolf Karl von Karnitz and dated 1808.

Surroundings

By the church are a burial chapel and a disused old cemetery. The church was consecrated again on 3 June 1946. Among the nearby sites, at a distance of about 4.6 km, stands the palace in Dreżewo.

Practical information

  • Karnice, Gryfice County.
  • Service times and the possibility of viewing the interior are given by the parish.
