Lake in the Bierzwnik Forests with an island on which an old-growth forest reserve has been established.
Lake Bierzwnik is a lake in the Dobiegniew Lakeland, in Choszczno County, within the Bierzwnik Forests. It has an area of 202.93 ha and an elongated shape with many bays: the longest stretch measures 5815 m, and the greatest width is 900 m.
In the middle part of the lake lies an island covered with old-growth pine and oak forest. To protect it, the nature reserve Wyspa na Jeziorze Bierzwnik (Island on Lake Bierzwnik) was established there in 1977. The shoreline is 13,150 m long, the average depth is 5.4 m and the greatest is 12.4 m. The lake lies at an altitude of 69 m above sea level in the catchment of the Mierzęcka Struga.
A study from 2011 rated the biological elements of the water as class I and the state of the lake as very good. On the southern shore lies the hamlet of Ostromęcko, and the village of Bierzwnik is about 2 km to the east. In the village itself stands the Cistercian Abbey in Bierzwnik.
