Neo-Gothic Orthodox parish church in Gryfice, a former Old Lutheran church, Orthodox since 1954.
The Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is an Orthodox parish church in Gryfice. It belongs to the Szczecin deanery of the Diocese of Wrocław and Szczecin of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The brick building in the neo-Gothic style, erected on a Latin cross plan, is entered in the heritage register.
According to the Wikipedia entry, the building was constructed from 1911 to 1913 as the Old Lutheran Church of St John, on the site of a half-timbered church from 1851. The heritage register dates it to the third quarter of the 19th century, so the dates differ between sources. After the Second World War the building served for over a year as a warehouse, and from 10 May 1946 a Catholic church dedicated to St Stanisław Kostka operated in it. The Orthodox took over the church on 29 November 1954, and the parish was established in the same year.
The renovation lasted from 1987 to 1992. Until 2009 the Gryfice church was the only one in Poland without an iconostasis. Part of the furnishings come from the church in Dolice.
Not far away stands the Stone Gate, about 200 metres from the church.
Nearby also stands the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, about 200 metres away.
