Railway Water Tower in Goleniów

ul. Dworcowa, Goleniów, Goleniów
About Railway Water Tower in Goleniów

A brick water tower from 1912 by the station in Goleniów, converted for cultural use after the renovation of 2020.

The railway water tower in Goleniów stands by the railway station and was built in 1912 to supply water to steam locomotives. It is a water tower of red brick, topped with a half-timbered head, today converted for cultural purposes.

The structure

The core of the tower was built of red brick, and the head has a flat base. The timber frame of the tank's casing wall was painted black, and the masonry infill was plastered and whitewashed. Inside, in the upper part, the original metal water tank has survived.

Renovations and present use

In the early 1970s one of the walls enclosing the tank collapsed. In 1991 the tower was renovated: the roof was replaced, the façade rebuilt and the wooden elements impregnated. Later a glazed staircase was added, and the building was named Twierdza Design. The conversion works, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, were completed in 2020. It houses the Rock Academy Association, a Polish Scouting Association (ZHP) scout hall and an artistic workshop studio. The building is entered in the municipal register of monuments.
