About Ruins of the church in Ziemomyśl A

Ruins of a granite church from around 1250 with portals and late Gothic gables, destroyed in 1945.

The ruins of the medieval church in Ziemomyśl A, in Dolice municipality, are listed in the heritage register. The church was built around 1250, destroyed in 1945 and never rebuilt.

Architecture

The church is built of granite ashlar laid in 18 courses. It is a single-nave hall on a rectangular plan measuring 21 by 12 m, representing the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. At the end of the Middle Ages a stone-and-brick tower of the same width as the nave was added on the west side, joined to it by a wide pointed-arch opening.

The carefully worked west portal with three stepped orders has survived. The south wall has two portals: the wider one led into the nave, the narrower one to the stairs to the upper storey of the tower. The late Gothic east gable is decorated with four pointed-arch blind niches, the west gable with seven, the latter partly hidden by the tower.
