The Sailor Monument stands by Grunwaldzki Square in Szczecin, on the axis of Pope John Paul II Avenue. The author of the sculpture is Ryszard Chachulski, and it was unveiled on 19 June 1980.
The monument was made of copper sheet and set on a concrete base faced with grey granite slabs. It shows a helmsman in a cap and with a windblown scarf, standing at the ship's wheel. The sculpture measures 3.85 by 2.30 by 1.60 metres, and the plinth 1.15 by 3.80 by 2 metres. In 2007 the sculpture was restored.
