Swing Bridge in Wolin

Wolin
About Swing Bridge in Wolin

A road swing bridge over the Dziwna Strait in Wolin, one of five such bridges in Poland.

The Swing Bridge in Wolin is a road bridge over the Dziwna Strait which links Wolin Island with Wolińska Kępa. It stands in the eastern part of the town. It is one of the five swing bridges in Poland.

How it works

The bridge is turned by electric motors placed on the central pier. When the waterway is opened, part of the central spans drops and then turns through 90 degrees across the bridge. Opening for shipping stops road traffic twice a day, so anyone who wants to see it turn should check the time beforehand.

Practical information

  • Next to it stands a second, arched bridge on the S3 road, a separate structure.
  • The centre is close: the Andrzej Kaube Regional Museum and the Collegiate Church of St Nicholas are about 300 m from the bridge.
  • The source does not give the times when the bridge opens for shipping, so ask about them in the town or at the road manager.
