A municipal puppet theatre operating since 1958, since 2009 in a new building at Teatralny Square.
The Pleciuga Puppet Theatre is a municipal cultural institution that has operated in Szczecin since 1958. Its repertoire includes performances for children and adaptations of world literature for adults, and during a season the theatre prepares four premieres on average.
The theatre was officially founded in 1958 by transforming Szczecin's Rusałka Puppet Theatre. The name "Pleciuga" was chosen in 1957 in a competition held among audiences. Nationwide fame came with the show "Misie Ptysie", directed by Włodzimierz Dobromilski, broadcast from 1964 by Polish Television in more than forty episodes.
Until September 2008 the theatre was housed at Kaszubska 9. In May 2009 it moved to a new building at Teatralny Square, the first theatre in Szczecin built from scratch after the Second World War. The building has about 3 thousand m² of usable floor space, two stages and a spacious foyer. The main hall seats 298, of which 274 are in the main auditorium. The first performance in the new building was "Kubuś i jego Pan".
The theatre has organised festivals several times, among them in 1972 the 1st Festival of Historical Arts in Puppet Theatres, and since 1996 it has been a co-host of the Kontrapunkt National Review of Small-Form Theatres.
