Adria Music Theatre in Koszalin

The Adria Music Theatre has operated in Koszalin since 2020 in the building at Grunwaldzka 8-10, which for many years housed a cinema of the same name. The theatre itself presents itself as the first music theatre in the town and in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

A building with a long history

According to the theatre's website, from 1913 the building served as the town's entertainment centre. Until 1933 the “Kammerlichtspiele” cafe operated here, where concerts and dance music evenings were held, and later, until 2007, the “Adria” cinema. When the new owners took over the building in 2020, they kept the name well known to residents. On the theatre's website one can see an archive photograph of the former auditorium from the early 20th century.

The auditorium and the theatre

The auditorium was adapted for the needs of a music stage: a stage was created with lighting and sound for staging musicals. The auditorium has about 300 numbered seats. The theatre is a private investment, without public funding. The first production was the musical “The Bodyguard” in September 2020, for which the theatre received an honorary award of the mayor of the town in the field of culture. Since 2022 it has also run a nationwide festival of musical song for young performers.

The building stands in the very centre, not far from the cathedral, so a visit to the theatre is easy to combine with a walk around the old town.
