A peat bog reserve in Płoty municipality with heathland and raised bogs, seen from an educational trail around its boundary.
Wrzosowisko Sowno is a peat bog reserve in Płoty municipality, about 2.5 km west-north-west of the town, by the road from Płoty to Golczewo. It protects a transition mire in a basin shaped by a glacier, together with a peat deposit formed by the gradual overgrowing of a former body of water.
The reserve was established in 1977 on an area of 26 ha, and in 2008 it was enlarged to 39.27 ha. The protected features are heathland, raised bogs and brown-moss fens. Among others, cross-leaved heath and flea sedge grow here. Among animals the sources list the wasp spider, the European tree frog, the moor frog, the sand lizard, the western marsh harrier, the red-backed shrike and several species of bats.
The area of the reserve is not open for visiting, because active protection under a plan of 2009 applies here. An educational trail has, however, been marked around the reserve, so the peat bog can be seen from the outside, from the route running along its boundary.
