The film’s protagonist, Matt Hagen, rises from a childhood on the streets of Gotham to become a Hollywood star. His career is cut short by the actions of a local crime boss, after which he is permanently disfigured. Rejected by those around him, he turns to a groundbreaking therapy that restores his former appearance.
The recovered face, however, brings unexpected consequences: distorted perception of reality drives Matt toward a destructive quest for revenge that gradually takes over his life.
